OK, I just picked up a new Panasonic DMC-LC20PP-S from OfficeMax yesterday (couldn't pass up the free Sandisk 128MB SD card included with it (not to mention the 8MB one that came in the box) PLUS I have a MIR for two more free 16MB SD cards:D

Anyway, the manual says to set the camera to playback mode then turn it on to connect with your PC. I did this, and Windows XP installed all the proper drivers and it shows up perfectly in device manager with the name of the camera and it lists the disk drive of the camera. I also go into Windows Explorer and the camera shows up as H: drive.

However, whenever I try to click on the H: drive icon, Explorer locks up and it doesn't read anything. The only thing I can do is hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and end task on Explorer or shut off the camera all together. I've tried to go to Windows Update with the camera on to see if it would pick up any newer drivers, but it doesn't. I also looked on Panasonic's website for generic XP drivers for the camera, but no go.

I've tried it on my 18.1" Planar LCD's powered 4-port USB 1.1 hub, I've tried it on my MS Natural Keyboard Pro's USB 1.1 hub, and I've also tried it on my powered 4-port USB 2.0 hub all with the same results.

I can take the SD card out and read it fine with my 6-in-1 USB Media reader, but that's kind of a hassle to do over and over again when I have a perfectly good USB sync to use on the camera.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My rig is listed in my sig and yes I have all the latest drivers and stuff loaded for my system (including Windows Update and SP1).

You didn't say so I'll ask...

Have you tried plugging the camera directly into the USB ports on your motherboard?

I've owned and dealt with a few USB devices that absolutely refused to work correctly when plugged into ANY hub I tried. They would only work when plugged into the ports on the mobo.

That is a no go for me. I can't plug it directly into the computer b/c all of my hubs run from the root ports coming off the motherboard. I have four root ports on my motherboard back panel My APC backup is plugged into one, my keyboard hub if plugged into the second, my USB 2.0 hub is plugged into the third, and my LCD hub is plugged into the fourth. Switching around that setup is out of the question :D

That being said, I've never had a problem before getting USB devices to run off hubs as long as they were powered. Each one of the powered hubs that I use (LCD hub and the USB 2.0 hub) have plenty of juice to power the camera.

Why don't you at least try Steve's suggestion once ? Even if it doesn't work long term, you could stop looking for other fixes if it does happen to work. I had a similar problem but on a 98SE box. The fix for it was to load the Windows IDE hard drive cache patch. (strange, but true !!) I think that patch was only for 98SE, I refuse to use XP with their activation crap, so I have no experience to help you with specifics on that OS.

The point is, my computer is useless without the hubs plugged into the back panel of the computer in the configuration it's in now. Even if it WOULD work back there, it doesn't really do me any good b/c I wouldn't be able to keep it there. My APC needs a dedicated port, as do my three hubs. So my solution needs to work around a fix, not by plugging it into the back of the computer...besides, it's too far of a reach for the cable anyway.

My USB devices:

Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical
Natural Keyboard Pro
Toshiba e550G USB Sync (not being used now b/c I sync wireless though 802.11b)
6-in-1 USB Reader
Belkin 802.11b wireless adapter
Epson C60 printer
HP 3300CSe scanner
APC 350VS backup
Gravis Xterminator Force
LCD hub

Using power-consuming products like USB external harddrive or digital cameras will not work on hubs because there just isn't enough power coming out of the USB port. Dono if it'll help you but you can give it a try by doing wut the other guys said earlier...

Well, I tried plugging it directly in and it still doesn't work.
