ok heres what i know

Memory timings are at 11-3-3-2.5

200x12.5 I can boot to windows run programs all day long, prime crashes after 4 mins, UT2004 GPF after 10 mins or so,memtest runs 8 hours perfect

180x11.5 all is stable

190x11.5 all is stable

200x8.5 prime crash, ut2004 GPF after 10 mins or so memtest 8 hours perfect

198x11.5 prime crash, memtest 8 hours perfect, GPF after 10 mins or so

I have tried mem up to 2.8v and cpu up to 1.85v and chipset up to 1.7

also mem in dual and single mode. Can you guys help? Temps are 37C at idle and 48-50C on load

If the board won't run at 400 mhz fsb, rma it, it's not working as advertised. Also, I believe the NF7 is only rated for 400 fsb if you populate just 2 of the dimms, check the manual, there should be a chart showing where to install ram to ensure 400 fsb operation.

The board may be rated for 400MHz FSB but the CPU isn't... It might be the chip (as unlikely as that seems)

You might also want to improve the NB cooling. Pull the hsf and clean up the surfaces. Then reattach it after applying some AS5 or similar. The NB chip has to be properly cooled, too.

I think tt doesn't matter what the chip is rated for, it has an unlocked multiplier and the cpu doesn't care what speed the fsb is at. The internal frequency is the only thing that affects cpu stability. Theoretically, you could run a 2 ghz chip at 2 ghz fsb with 1 for the multiplier. The only limits are ram and the northbridge chip.

Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

I'm fairly sure that certain CPUs just won't do higher FSB speeds. I had a Duron that wouldn't do 133MHz, but as soon as I put an AthlonXP into the motherboard I was able to hit 133MHz. I'd love to be wrong though, as an overclocker what you said was encouraging. :)

sigh, what else can I test to get to the bottom of this? This is the info on my processor which I have read confirms it is the 1.45v version

what are your temps. case and cpu, idle and load? what bios are you on and what are you bios settings.

Have you tried:
adding cooling to the mosfets
replacing the NB cooling with something that doesn't suck
stickikng a hs on the SB

when you say prime95 crashes. what does it do. error or lockup?

prime just errors out.

no I have not added better cooling to the areas you mentioned

looking at the info I posted on the cpu I bought in my previous post does it suck?

idle temps are like 37C, full load is like 49-51C

Those temps look fine, you might want to try and lay the back of the finger on the heatsink and feel the actual temp, should feel fairly warm

ok I got major problems. decided to bump vcore down to 1.75 and run folding @home overnight to check stability. I woke up this morning to see that the system had rebooted and now i cannot access windows I just get a message that \windows\system32\system is corrupt or missing please insert cdrom and hit R to repair. I am not savy when it comes to repairing winxp pro, please can some give me step by step instructions on how I repair this? Hopefully I do not have to toatlly reinstall. Thx

just do the repair process ir whatever
boot and run checkdisk or something

you shouldn't lose any data even if you have to reinstall/repair

but how specifically do I do the repair process? Also do I just reinstall winxp over itself?

go over to the os forum....

do a search for system32 whatever....

and see what turns up...

i've posted there a few times concerning this...

i've found the best solution is to just install the service pack over again by going into safe mode with network support, downloading the service pack and reinstalling it....

try it...

it should work... and you won't lose anything....

btw, what memtest version did you use? and what ram are you using?

problem is that when i try safe mode I get the same error that /windows/system32/config/system is corrupt or missing.

im at work now but have chkdsk /r running at home and I know chkdsk /p found one or more errors but I dont think it repaired them. Anything else I can do through the recovery console?

that's why i keep asking... but he's not answering...

assuming it's what is in his sig, then it should be capable but with what timings is another issue...

You're running at 2.5 CAS latency...is that what they are rated for? Make sure they are at default/optimal and pump up your RAM voltage to 2.8 or 2.9 if you can. The other thing you need to look at is your PSU. Run MBM5 and check to make sure that your 5V and 12V rails are stable.

i don't know if you can, but try running it at 166 fsb and 14x or 14.5 multipler and make sure your cpu can even run at that speed with 1.85 volts.. if not give it more juice.
