here's my big problem. Me and my roommate just got DSL from mindspring, Dynamic IP's, and we want to share the connection. we have a hub and it should be a plug and play. before the hub arrived, we would just switch the line at the modem from each computer and log on one at a time but that is a waste of dsl. we can both log on seperately, but now we can't even get the hub working to set up the network between the two computers. when we plug the modem into the hub it doesn't recognize each other's existence. what is going on?? it does when we plug it into the uplink plug but that shouldn't be a issue right? what is the problem?? any help would recieve cash reward...J/k

thanks

sb

ps... i have a 10 mbps hub thanks and my networking skills are pathetic. please be gentle and as specific as possible

Well from what I read, you only have 1 IP avaliable... so you will have to share that 1 IP between your 2 PCs... What you have to do is network the 2 PCs together, and connect your DSL modem to one of the PC. Then just some ICS software to share the connection... The downside is that the PC connected to the DSL modem has to be on whenever the other one wants to access the internet... You can find out more information about networking at HomePCLAN.

Another way to do this is to buy a DSL router... It is much easier to setup, just plug the DSL modem to the router and your PCs to the router... However this option is more expensive... The router does provide a hardware firewall for a very secure connection...

So I guess you will have to decide what your budget is and what's more important to you...
