They were playing in windows media player for a while and all of a sudden a couple weeks a go they just stop playing it says can't download compressor. It said that before when they played too but it still played. Now just the audio plays. I tried in WMA 6.4, ATI file player, and several other share/freeware video players. None worked fully and some just played the audio. I tried in Premiere 6 and when I went to put the video onto the timeline only Audio would add. It's like the video jsut disappeared. I tried renaming to .mpeg, .mpg., .mpe still didn't work. Then I used FlaskMPEG to try and convert to uncompressed (then convert back to something) but after it converted the 330mb mpeg-2 to a 2gb (!) avi I tried playing WMA and it just said can't play check the address. I remember getting that error when trying to play an incomplete AVI but just to make sure I deleted that and converted again and it still said that.

I'm out of ideas. Any help would be great, thanks.

Reinstall the ATI DVD Player. Winblows has lost ATI's Cinemaster codec on you.

Tried it, didn't work. Same thing is happening. Thanks for the suggestion though, sounded like it would work. Any other suggestions?

Do you have something like a trial version of WinDVD installed? It registers it's own codec for mpeg and when it expires you've got to uninstall it before mplayer works again.
