Alright, I'm getting ready to go home (from college) on Sunday, so I figured I'd reinstall my old winmodem...well, it ain't workin'. When Windows 98 autodetected it, it said that the drivers on my driver disk weren't correct for the hardware. So, I have no idea what the hell to do...does anyone have advice??

What brand is it? Goto the manufactures website and download all the Winmodem drivers and then it is a process of trial and error to find the correct one.

Just go ahead and install the drivers, for some reason windows does this fairly often with modems. least my exp. If it doesnt work just uninstall it. also do as ausm suggested.

Shutdown
Uninstall the modem
Reboot and eliminate all traces of the drivers, search the registry/Device Manager as well.
Reinstall in a different slot and when it reboots point windows to the new drivers.

Okay...

I forgot to mention before that it is a USR Winmodem. I have no idea which drivers to use off of USR's website. I know that the driver disk I have worked last year (May actually), because I had a virus, and had to reinstall all my drivers. I didn't have the correct ones at that point, and a small computer shop installed them for me off of that disk. I've tried unistalling everything and rebooting, and still nothing.

I'm figuring I might as well just get a new one tomorrow...they aren't that expensive anymroe...but it just pisses me off.
