Can't get iPod (Windows) to work on my PC w/Audigy. Anyone got this to work?

Got the iPod, followed the installation instructions, plugged the iPod into my Audigy Platinum's Live Drive jack and it detected new hardware, went thru the driver install routine and then:

There was a problem installing this hardware:

SBP2 Compliant IEEE 1394 device

An error occured during the installation of the device.

The data is invalid.

In the Device Manager there's a section called SBP2 IEEE 1394 Devices with a slammed entry for Apple Computer_Inc. iPod. Opening it's properties shows:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

Driver versions are unavailable, the drive doesn't show in Explorer and I'm dead in the water. Specs are in the link below, but the important bits are:

Soyo Dragon Plus mobo
Audigy Platinum w/Live Drive (I DLed and reinstalled the latest driver pack from CL)
WinXP SP1

I've ditched Music Match Crap Box and other apps, DLed Ephpod and the Apple SW Updater, but I'm stuck until the friggin' iPod is recognized. Surely, there's someone here with the same/similar HW setup who's got it working.

I tried reinstalling the MMJB SW from both the CD and after DLing from the Music Match site with no success. Trying to run the Apple iPod Updater has a blank licensing box and clicking to proceed gets me an error that the USE.DLL won't load. WinXPs System Restore can't roll back either. This is suck!

a lot of people have had trouble getting ipods to work with audigys (i think the audigy doesnt follow the ieee1394 spec or something). check out the ipod lounge forums to see if you can get help there.

My looking at iPod Lounge earlier dug up a lot of instances of the Moderator helpfully advising people to go and buy new IEEE 1394 cards. Thanks, Bub.

Mileage seems to vary - some people report no problems, others have no end of them. Soundblaster.com and M$KB don't have anything on iPods and considering that the Audigy has been out since late-2001 and the Windows iPod has been around at least 6-9 months, you'd think that SOMEWHERE a fix for the driver hassle would be available.

It's clearly seeing SOMETHING, but failing to load a driver or install it. If there was a way to locate/fix the actual problem, I'd have been done years ago.

(Note: I'm leaving for the weekend now, so I'll be back Tuesday in hopes that someone's got the fix for this. Thanks.)

well, in that case i would assume that neither apple nor creative is willing to take responsibility for the problems with the audigy and ipod. that basically means you wont get any help from either company, and probably nothing is going to happen (although, i believe the audigy 2 does not have this problem). as i said before, the problem is due to audigy not following the ieee 1394 spec, which means that firewire devices aren't guaranteed to work with the audigy. as the people in ipod lounge are saying, your only real choice right now is to pick up a new firewire card. a good cheap one runs about ~15-20 bucks. (i got one from newegg for 16 + 5 bucks shipping)

good luck, anyways,

DefRef, I was about to suggest Xplay until I read the title more closely lol. I have a Mac iPod that I used to run off of the Audigy's firewire port. It worked beautifully but again that was the Mac version. You could try formatting the iPod using the Mac file system - I don't know if that is possible. I know you can do it with a Mac pod. Have you tried Apple customer care?

I finally got it to work last night. Not totally sure if it was the service pack (SP1a) I installed, having the basic Audigy 1394 controller reinstall itself or just plain stripping off every bit of crap SW that Apple foisted on me that did the trick, but it's working now. I'm using EphPod to manage things and it seems cool, so here's to hoping.

For anyone else who locates this thread, I advise NOT USING THE CRAP SOFTWARE THAT APPLE GIVES YOU!!! YOU DON'T NEED IT!!!! Music Crotch Junk Box is the most unwieldly POS I've ever encountered and whatever plug-ins it scatters make life miserable.

If you've installed the software, REMOVE IT all the way down to the iPod Watcher app and plug-ins. Stop whatever services that may be running and DELETE THE INSTALL FOLDERS in C:\Program Files. After rebooting, simply plug the iPod into your PC and it should mount as a Firewire drive, assign it a letter and be viewable thru Explorer. Go to www.ephpod.com and DL the Windows version (currently 2.60f beta, 2.58 stable) and install it. Before running it, be sure to delete the "ipod_controller" folder off THE IPOD so that EphPod can manage the playlists, etc.

Thanks to all who tried to help.:)
