i have an IBM thinkpad 760el

how do i get to bios to change boot sequence...

also can i boot from a pcmcia card? cause thats where my floppy is...

thanks

You should be able to change the boot sequence to PCMCIA...I can with my Dell I8K. I'm not sure about getting to the bios though...it's f2 on mine, but you might want to just start trying diff buttons...esc through all of the function keys.

I will say this just like I did to many people on many forums: try their technical support 🙂
I bet it will take you less time to do that than it would to format your hard drive (go "format C: /u" and let me know 🙂)

try hitting delete as well as f5 through f12. all pretty quickly and repeatedly during boot b4 windows splash screen occurs. you may get lucky and find out that one of them gets you into the bios

got it....but after i set it to boot from pcmcia card...it wont boot...i have a floppy that has a pcmcia connection and it wont boot from it...whats up?

Wait a sec...will it not boot, or will it just not boot from your floppy...does anything happen when you start up the machine? ...like, can you get back into the bios?

i can get back into bios...the thing is i want to get to DOS..but it has preloaded NT4 and i dont know the password to get into windows...is there some way i can boot to DOS...without a boot disk...also my cdrom can not boot either it is old...

wow, i really feel bad for you man.

i just did some research and it seems a lot of linux users are able to get special drivers that allow them to boot their laptops off pcmcia floppy drives. have you gone to the drive manufacturers website and looked around for something like that

also, i suppose you have the option of a "network install"..but i really would have no idea how to do that, and you'd also need a NIC in the computer.

let me know if you can find ANYTHING regarding the name of the floppy. post it here too so we can all do some research

If all else fails, get a TP760 floppy on E*ay and use it. They are about $14.00 plus shipping. They go in the ultrabay, which is on the left side of the machine when you lift the keyboard.

i have a thinkpad preloaded with NT4 as well. there is no dos boot options in the os loader screen.

you can't go to DOS w/o using a floppy.

As busterbrown said, try the IBM floppy. I've got one for my TP600x and it can boot from that w/ no change to BIOS. If this is a one time thing, maybe find someone with a tp760 and borrow their floppy drive.
