Can't get into bios

I'm building a new machine and I've hit a roadblock. I can't get into the bios. The board is a Abit BH7 with a P4 2.53. I get a checksum error - loading defualts message when I boot and when attempting to get into the bios, a cursor appears at the top of the screen with a blue bar across the bottom and the machine locks up.

I've been able to get the os installed without any problems.

I've cleared the cmos serveral times and have swapped out the battery, still nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just have 1 stick of curcial ddr 333 ram. I reseated it just in case, but I'm still getting the same results. I have removed the board from the case to make sure I wasn't getting a short anywhere and still have the same issue. I thought it might have something to do with the vid card and I swapped it out and nothing. I'm wondering if I may have a bad board.

I've made sure to power the machine off and unplug it from the outlet before clearing the cmos. I've left the jumper in the clear position for up to 10 minutes and am still not having any luck.

I updated the bios with the newest that Abit has to offer and cleared the cmos after the update. Same results. I'm kind of at a loss here.
