Can't get into bios or boot menu help

I've been having a lot of problems lately with Chrome and with Shockwave and probably switching browsers will fix the problem but I'm ready to just do a fresh install of windows 8 just because I feel it's time, the computer is just booting so slow and acting stupid.

Anyways, this has never happened, it's a 1yr old computer, but I can't even get into the boot menu or bios.

When I restart, with the Win8 disk in the dvd drive, the MSI screen comes on saying "press del to enter bios or f11 for boot menu". However neither button works, whether I hold it down or keep pressing it the computer still boots to Windows.

What is it with this computer that I'm doing wrong, I've re-installed Windows this way at least 25x in the past including this one I'm working with now.

Sometimes the bios will not recognize usb ports fast enough, or at all, during POST. I have had several systems that simply refused to accept any input from my usb keyboard at bootup. It is a seriously irritating issue, usually fixed by simply plugging in a PS2 keyboard. If you cannot plug in a PS2 keyboard, then you can try unplugging the hard drive. That should let you get into the bios. Once in the bios you can fiddle with usb settings until you find one that will get your usb keyboard working properly at bootup.

I've seen some USB keyboards that the BIOS will not see at boot time.
Try to find an old PS/2 keyboard if your pc has a purple ps/2 connector for one.

Some boards will also only accept input on certain USB ports during POST. Try the USB 2.0 ports if you have a mix of 2.0 and 3.0

The motherboard manual may also note what port to plug into.

If you have Fast Boot enabled in BIOS, then it ignores the BIOS setup key sequence. You have to choose to enter the BIOS, using a UEFI-aware OS that will pass control to the BIOS from the OS.
