Can't get internet up

When I try to set up my internet connection on my new Ultra-D rig, I get this error that "Windows cannot renew IP address". I even tried using the CD the ISP gave and me, and STILL got the cannot renew IP error. I called the customer service and they said that "it was probably the drivers" but the guy sounded like he didn't know what he was talking about. Is there a wayto fix this? Could it be because I used an XP install CD from Gateway, and that it screwed up the IP? It's been frustrating trying to get this internet set up.

well make sure, since its a new rig, that you installed the ethernet drivers. also try to have latest drivers for everything.

Also, reset your modem & router if needed. After that try a Windows repair of the network if it is a high speed connection. What you do is go to control panel, click on network connections, then right click the network & click on repair.

Typically the reset of the router & cable modem will fix the renew IP address problem.

Might see if the ISP requires you to have a static IP or if they automatically assign one. Also as stated above, make sure your NIC card is properly installed in the Device Manager panel.

If the nVidia firewall is enabled, it may be blocking your Windows installation's DHCP requests. Enable your Windows Firewall and disable your nVidia firewall or lower it to anti-hacking-only and see if that gets it to connect. Bigger picture: how about getting a router to be your first layer of firewalling, if you don't have one already?

Another option is to simply set up your TCP/IP settings manually so no DHCP needs to happen in the first place.
