Can't get full speed out of my DSL.

I just upgraded to the 3000/384+ plan for my DSL and I have been upset as my speed did not go up.

I ran DSL reports test and the SBC Yahoo speed test with a result of about 1400/210, just slightly faster then with my 1500/256 plan.

I tried a different computer in the room and it showed 1700/350 and so did all three of the other systems in the room.

I updated to the latest nvidia drivers and got the speed up to 1700/250 but it is still slower then normal. The strangest thing is that it is the fastest system in the room.

I am using the onboard LAN on the ABIT NF7-S v2.

Anybody know how I can fix this? I increased my receive window beyond 32000 but don't remember what else to do.

Thanks

Have you gone into your Modem settings page and see what rate it synced up at???

You should see the difference there. Before it should've been syncing at 1472 for the 1.5 meg rate and now it should be at somewhere around 3012 for the 3 meg rate.

If the sync rate did not change you won't see a difference yet.

1. You are either still capped (physically or on the rback) and the speed test increase is purely a fluke.
2. Your due date for the speed increase has not occured.
3. Your physical distance from RT/Central office tops off at that speed and that's what you will max out at.

5100b (192.168.0.1) modem will show you connection rate in connection information. Did you already power cycle your modem?

Download DrTCP: http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe

Run the program, it will show the current settings of TCP/IP parameters. Write them down.

You can change any variable that you want, click Apply, and reboot the computer, if no good; you can always change to your original values.

Start with:

MaxMTU - for DSL =1492, Cable=1500, ISDN -1322, DialUp=576

Tcp Receive - 256960 (This is the variable to play with).

Window Scaling - Yes

Time Stamping - No

Selective Acks - Yes

Path MTU Discovery - Yes.

Black Hole - NO

Max Duplicate - 2

TTL - 64

Notice it said above Start with

These settings are not written in "stone" there is variability depending on the computer other setting. So try few setting and measure your Download for each setting.

In addition, in case a person has a Router the Router's MTU if set differently can affect the general MTU.

Link: Measuring the "Speed" of Internet Connection.

And if this did not help Call your DSL Provider.

I wouldn't use a webpage to base your bandwidth numbers on either. Download a large file from a wite with a fat pipe. I use netscapes public FTP. That is much more accurate after the burst settles down than a website that downloads a small file. If you go to Netscapes FTP and download communicator, then you'll see what your connection is capable of.

Thanks everyone.

The problem is that this fast system tested slow while all the others were normal.

I tried DSL reports and could not do anything.

I called SBC support and after some time they told me that I had eternal line problems not allowing 3000 so I got them to raise me to 2500/416 and now all systems including the fast one run at full speed.

Can someone tell me how I can log into my DSL modem? Cable is 192.168.1.1 I think but I could not find my DSL modem IP. I have an old speed stream 5360.

192.168.0.1 is my router. Would that be the modem IP as well? any way I can get to the modem without disconnecting the modem in that case.
