Heya,

I'm trying to get a LCD monitor to work here on my radeon 7000 card. It only has a single d-sub input as do most old video cards. I bought a DVI -> d-sub adapter but I can't get the display to work. The monitor detects the card but the pc doesnt enable the device (I guess?) I downloaded the latest ATI control panel and I cant find a way to enable digital input. The help says there's a way but I can't find it.... I'm lost... would appreciate the help. Thanks

Input? You mean output... to the monitor right?

Monitors don't detect cards. The card may detect a monitor, but the monitor will just show whatever signal you give it. Does anything at all happen on the screen when you plug it in?

What does it say?

Does the monitor work when you plug proper DVI into it (you may need to borrow someone's laptop to try this)? Is there an analog/digital button on it?

Ya sorry for backwards talk, but yea you got it right.

When I connect the monitor to the card, it goes into sleep mode. When it's disconnected, I get the 'no signal' message (obviously). The monitor works with my other PC that has a video card with both DVI and Dsub outputs. I figured with the adapter, the PC wouldn't notice a difference as it's still using the analog output.

I do have the capability to change betwen analog and digital, but neither works. The analog mode doesn't get a signal and the digital mode just goes into sleep mode. Which I think is how it should be operating, minus the sleep mode....

Use a VGA cable to connect the video card directly to the monitor. Do not use the adaptor. Most, if not all, DVI ports on monitors only support the digital part of the signal.

The ONLY use for a DVI-VGA adapter is for something like a CRT, where the only input availible is VGA.
