cant get dsl working on laptop =(

i picked up an old laptop for surfing the web and typing, etc but the internet doesnt work on it. 56k works but dsl isnt working when i plug in the cable. ived tried all the network sharing, create new connections and still doesnt work. im used to just plugging in the cable and go, but this laptop is being difficult.

its a gateway 5300 btw. im not sure where to start...so can anyone help me?

Look at he Browser's Internet Options and make sure that it is checked Not to DialUp.

Make sure that you actually have Network connection.

In General you can debug the Network Setting of the computer following these steps.

Step One - Check the Network parameters in the Computer?s Device Manager. Make sure that the drivers are installed correctly; there is No IRQ conflict, and No Ghost installation. http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost

Step Two - Verify Basic network setting in the OS: http://www.ezlan.net/Installing#verify
If the above two Steps indicates that every thing looks good but functionally it does not work.

Step Three - Check (and repair if necessary) the Socket Layers, Winsock, and or refresh the TCP/IP Stack. http://www.ezlan.net/clean#refreshnet

You maybe have to install drivers on your network card.
