Can't Get Digital Sound To Work

I just got a new Soundblaster Live! MP3+ sound card and am trying to get it to work with my MidiLand S4 8200 speakers. The speakers include a dolby digital receiver. I am plugging in the RCA plugs into the receiver and the digital cable into the digital cable on the computer. The speakers work fine for DVD's and when using the test function. No sound comes out when I put the speakers in digital mode, though. I have tried changing lots of settings with the Soundblaster software, but nothing seems to be working.
