Can't get digital out over DVI from 5900 to Projector

I have a projector that's capable of both analog & digital input, (optoma H31)
It's connected via DVI-I cable to my HTPC with an Nvidia 5900 to the DVI port.

In advanced display properties under "Nview Display Settings" it lists two choices.
When the display properties "detect displays" button is pushed it sees the H31 as "Analog Display" so I have two to choose from in my list,
"Hitachi CM 752"
and
"Analog Display"

Is it possible to get this thing to detect my PJ as a digital device or to get the 5900 to output digital somehow?

When I push the button on the H31 for DVI-D it says "No Signal", then the button for DVI-A and I get my desktop. I'd like to output digital to the PJ.

More info: I've tried drivers 71.20 and 71.84 so far. No difference.

There's got to be some kind of registry setting or something that turns on the digital (flat panel, LCD) monitor part of the display properties interface.

🙁 I don't know.... Does your manual have anything about what kind of cable you need? My Infocus 4805 has a cable that looks a lot like DVI but I'm not sure if a DVI cable could just plug into it. It's listed as a DVI(M1). I'm running component so I didn't try it.

Anyway, I think you'll get a lot more help from the Digital Projector forum or HTPC area of AVSforum.

There's even some huge threads in the projector area just about your model. Your problem is probably addressed in it.

Thanks, I'm registered as rbastedo over there so if you look very hard at all you will see lots of my posts especially in the H31 thread.

When I can scrape a few more bucks together I'll try getting a DVI-D cable and see if it works better than my DVI-I.

I was under the impression that a DVI-D cable was part of the DVI-I signal article

Yes, I think what is happening (undocumented of course) is that I am using a cable that can do either Analog and/or digital and the Nvidia is defaulting to Analog and will not do digital as long as Analog is present and working.
So, the only way to test this out is to go buy a DVI-D cable and plug it in.

Hope it works out 🙂
