can't get correct resolution while playing games w/ xp

When i load a game like Rainbow Six under Windows XP, the display would expand beyond the size of my 19" monitor.
How do I disable this virtual resolution while playing games?

try powerstrip... it worked well for me, as every game I would play (winxp) in a resolution other than my desktop res would switch to 60hz. You should be able to force only certain resolutions to be available. Also, you may just want to adjust the geometry on your monitors controls while in this resolution so it fits your screen... your monitor should retain your custom settings.
