Hey all, just picked up a new OEM Sempron 3100+, Refurb MSI K8T NEO-FI2R, Artic-Cooler HS/F.

- Updated Bios to latest 1.8, enabled Q-n-C in Bios
- Installed XP-SP1 fresh on 80GB SATA drive
- Updated processor driver to AMD 1.1.0.14 from AMD Sempron site
- Set power management to "Minimal Power Management"
- Installed AMD PowerNow! Desktop

After rebooting, processor speed does not change at all, stays at 1800.
PowerNow! Desktop refuses to load, giving me some sort of table errors.

Any ideas???

Thanks!
Michael

Stupid question (I will try to look it up) but does the Sempron support cool and quiet ?

Edit:I can easily find that listed for the Athlon64 on AMD's site, but not for the Sempron.

idiot......
Sounds just like Felix, and maybe it is under another name. In any case, we need to stop feeding the trolls. This is my last quote to this thread on this matter, I won't feed trolls anymore.

Ahem, Maybe someone should look at the power compairision charts. Pound for Pound AMD gives more preformance for power in most situations (Pentium-M is a diffrent story)

Try using CPU-Z to monitor the cpu speed, forget about the powernow desktop, it's junk. I used to use MBM, but it locks up my PC sometimes when the cool'n'quiet throttles the CPU. You've got to make sure nothing is pushing the CPU high.

I myself am running a Sempron 3100 at 2406mhz using a 267FSB/3xHT/11xmemory divider on a Biostar K8NHA-Grand mobo. I use Clockgen to change speeds and VID in windows since the BIOS only allows settings up to 250FSB.

I would go higher on the FSB but my RAM is only stable up to 437DDR.

In short C&C definitely works on the Sempron, just look at this AMD page:

AMD Sempron (Socket 754) Processor Driver for Windows XP, Version (exe) 1.1.0.14 - AMD Sempron (Socket 754) Processor Driver for Windows XP allows the system to automatically adjust the CPU speed, voltage and power combination that match the instantaneous user performance need.

I've been looking at getting one of these AMD 64 cpu's or a Sempron. But have read a lot of complaints about the Cool N Quiet not working.

I noticed a FAQ posted about one of the Epox boards that says the Cool n Quiet for it, only works with a single memory module... so I don't know if that applies to all boards, or just the Epox brand. It seems stupid if it just worked with one stick of memory.

As for the comment about what the Semprons support... from a chart I saw, it supports some of the AMD64 features, just not all such as 64bit.

I'd post a link, but this message editor is hacking the link so it won't work.

From what I know, it's just an A64 with no 64 :) and half the cache, no support for dual channel memory. Cool'N'Quiet works fine for me on a K8NHA-Grand although some of the sensors in MBM are wigged out.
