hi to any networking afficionados...

i'm pretty competent when it comes to setting up networks, but what bums-me-out is that i can't get this one machine on the network! for some reason, a bogus IP keeps appearing on the settings, and i cannot seem to release or renew it (in order to hop on our DHCP).

i'm using a linksys 4-port router, and have tried to connect that computer directly to one of the ports, and tried to connect it indirectly via a hub -- to no avail. :(

is this possible that an IP address is somehow a permanent fixture on this NIC card? or am i just missing something here?

any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

RaDragon

How is your network setup? Is there any sort of Firewall software installed? do you use a WINS Server, DNS Server.. we need more info..

well, it's just peer-to-peer -- all 3 computers (plus the one i'm trying to get online) are connected to my router. no servers, or other special configs. pure dhcp.

i also use @home, so my router gets a new ip every few weeks or so. it was working fine w/ 3 computers (and my laptop). but when i got this other computer, it doesn't seem to like to find the dhcp server.

I suggest removing all protocals,
deinstalling the network card..
Reinstall the network card and protocals and then try again.
If that doesn't work..
Check cables, try a differnt port on the router.. (known working one)
