So here is the setup. I started working for this client and he had a Sonic wall (a brand name hardware firewall) both on his home computer and his office computer. He was able to simply login into all computers in the office network from home. Then we changed his home connection to Cable from DSL... and sonic wall does not work on cable. So we had to disconnect it.

Now there is a sonic wall left in the office. So he had me buy PC anywhere to see if he can log into his work computer from home. I have been trying to get it to connect to the work computer from home but it fails. I assume its the sonic wall that causes the blockage. But when i disable to sonic wall in the office the whole internet goes down. So i cannot just briefly disable it. i need to mess with the settings of the whole network.

So anyone have any advice how i can connect his home computer to his office network. I dont have to use PC anywhere.

It sounds like he had his SonicWall at home setup to do a VPN to the SonicWall at the office, which is an excellent solution. What model of SonicWall did he have at his home? I am not a SonicWall expert, but I can think of no device in their line that would work on DSL but not cable.

The reason you can't PCAnywhere into the office is that the SonicWall is a firewall which is meant to block traffic unless it is expressly told to let it pass. You will have to configure the SonicWall to allow those inbound connections. That could be somewhat messy if he is expecting to connect to multiple machines. You would have to either map different ports for each machine, or just PCAnywhere into one machine, and from there hop to any others in the office. By far the best solution would be to get the home SonicWall working again.

thanks guys. i'll try it. When i first tried to set it up... i dont remember so much but i think i called the sonic wall people and they told me i needed a static IP to use the sonic wall but cable only had dynamic IPs. My recollection may not be accurate but i know that it was a problem with the static/dynamic IP and that cable company didnt give the right one or something. I'll try it next time i see the client
