I love Win2k, but the refresh rate problem is really beginning to piss me off. I am of course speaking about having the monitor refresh rate defaulting to 60hz when running an opengl/directx game. Can anyone really explain to me why this happens because it just seems so stupid for MS to have done this.
I have a Creative Labs TNT2u with TV-Out(which I actually use). I am aware the DirectX refresh rate can be defaulted to a resonable rate using the DirectX applet, not to mention that most company drivers have it defaulting to 75hz now (atleast the current Creative Labs TNT2 drivers do) but that still doesn't fix the openGL rates defaulting to 60hz. I also know about hacking the .inf install file to force the refresh rate to whatever I want it to, but when I do that, the TV-Out function of the card becomes disabled.
For those of you who don't know, TV-Out requires a 640x480 or 800x600 resolution @60hz. When you hack the .inf file to remove that rate, the card is unable to switch to 60hz and therefore there is no TV-Output.
It seems as if I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. There just seems to be no way for me to have the video drivers work at a high refresh rate in both DirectX/OpenGL and TV-Out at the same time. Can anyone else figure out how to get around this? I wish MS can just fix this annoying problem because it's really pissing me off.
