hi
i have win xp running on both machines. i can acess all of my stuff on the server from my laptop EXCEPT for my mp3's in the mp4 folder on my server. i have it mapped as a network drive on my laptop ( as i do with all my other shared directories). I'm thinkning that it has so many files in it that it is causing trouble. what can i do to listen to my music?

when i try to open the mp3 folder over the network, the laptop just hangs and i have to close the window.

You could try and check if it is a problem of too many files by moving/copying a couple to another folder and see if you can access them then.

yup that is exactly the problem...
this must be a common thing though no? don't lots of people have their mp3 library on a server? it seems silly that i can go all the way through a broadband connection via orb to get at my music remtotely, but i can't use my home network to do it....

I know it might be a hassle but you could create sub directories and split up your mp3's to enable faster access.

itunes and other progs work really well for this sort of thing because the library directory is already defined as a file, so that is all that has to be read, instead of having windows give you a full directory listing.

basically, wireless music streaming is pretty snappy using it:)
