Cant get any sound through my Avermedia UltraTV USB 300

I cant get any sound, the picture works fine, and the audio line-in is going into my notebook microphone slot.

If i put headphones directly into the audio out of the hardware i get sound and if i do a test on the microphone input the computer sees sound coming in, but i cant get it to work at all with the video program

any suggestions??
