can't get ad-hoc to work...

I have wireless G card in laptop and wireless B in desktop. both are set to B.

Both have printer and file sharing opened.
I disabled both firewalls and windows firewalls.
Each says they are connected with execellent signal strength.
I turned off encryption.
Both are in the same workgroup.

I cannot get either computer to show up in the network or my workgroup. WTF AM I MISSING?????

ps- i also tried the "Easy setup" method and used a thumb drive to configure both PCs - still nothing.

did you assign IP addresses to the machines? set PC 1 up with 192.168.0.10 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and PC 2 with 192.168.0.11 same subnet mask and try to ping each other by IP.

can i do that and continue to use the internet on my dialup connection though?

ok, i set up each IP address. Each says they are connected, but i cannot ping either computer
