Can't get a POST - Need help please..

Unable to retain power when I try to POST.

I have checked everything on the M/B a couple of times, reseated 512 meg of Crucial Cas2 memory, - but that is no gurantee I don't have something screwed up. -ng-

Motherboard is an ASUS CUSL2-C set up jumper free by the book. Chassis intrusion leads on the case are not used and jumpered out on the M/B.

Matrox dual monitor AGP card installed, monitor, keyboard, and mouse are the only things connected at this time. Drives are sitting in the case but not plugged up.

What happens: I plug in the power and the green standby light comes on the M/B.

I hit the power switch and all 4 fans run ...........for a second, then they drop off. They wil not power up until I remove power completely and the green LED on the board goes out. I can then repeat the process.

Power stays on for about a second then I am dead in the water. Power LED stays on for the same amount of time. I have removed the reset leads and tried to power on with them off, but the same thing happens.

Same thing happens with the video card removed.

This is my first attempt at building a computer and I'm not too swift at this. Any help will be appreciated.

TIA

Does it give you any beep-codes or any sort of indication of any kind?

Have you got a 2nd system to check things in - i.e.: some other board in which u can check CPU and memory and/or GFX-card?

More details on components pls (CPU, etc., etc.) & disconnect everything bar the essentials - i.e.: just CPU, memory & Video-card in the system for the time being.

Do you get any sort of input signal on the monitor (does its light go green) or anything? Some more info pls 🙂.

Sounds like a motherboard short.

Make sure NONE of the motherboard is touching the case; that it's mounted correctly on those little "feet". Also, make sure there is no flexing of the board. Remove all parts except RAM, CPU, and VIDEO and retry.
