got in on the onkyo deal for $133 shipped
got the system, everything looks new!
got it all hooked up to my 42" and wii

2 channel audio works and sounds awsome
however i just hooked up everything 5.1 and im still getting stereo and not dolby surround. when i turn on the surround i just get bad noise from all the speakers. when i do a speaker test theres just noise comming from all the speakers....anyone got a clue what im doin wrong?!?

How do you have the receiver connected to the source? It needs to be digital for 5.1 to work.

edit before someone nitpicks: OR have 5 channels of analog inputs such as you see with DVD-Audio

iv just got l and r analog in
the wii supports 5.1, but theres no digital out!
my dvd player has hdmi out, but it goes strait to my tv..and the tv has analog out along with fiber optic out....so would i have to go through the tv?!

the speaker test / level set will just be 'white noise' (static) from each speaker.

As for why you aren't getting something else when you plug in... not sure, you're definitely doing something wrong. What sort of audio connection are you making from your source (DVD?) to the receiver?

Edit: you will only get 5.1 sound from a digital connection (or 5 discrete analog connections) - either a optical cable or a single digital RCA cable. If the WII supports 5.1 and doesn't have a digital out, does it require some sort of "connection pack" to do it?

If there is no digital IN to the TV, it isn't going to put much digitial OUT either... (although if it is hidef with a hidef tuner it will play 5.1 on those channels when equipped)

i have 3 sources atm:
wii
dvd
hd cable box

audio output is just l and r analog

It looks like the Wii does not support AC3 (dolby digital 5.1 surround sound). It supports dolby pro logic II, which is more or less virtual surround sound from a stereo connection.

Start simple, connect digital audio from your DVD player to your receiver. Get that working first and work from there. (surely your DVD player has some kind of digital out..)

You're not going to get 5.1 with an analog l/r pair. Perhaps there is an adapter or cable kit that provides digital out for the Wii...

Wow, that's bizarre. Well HDMI is a bit of a disaster. How about the cable box, can you start there with a digital out?

i hooked up the optical from cable box, still no surround..just distorts it and gives the extra noise

All right dude, seriously, we need more info.

Take pictures of the backs of your units and post them on pics.bbzzdd.com.
We need to see exactly what you have back there.

Are you sure? What model DVD player is it? (If you can't get pictures like shortylickens suggests)
