Can't get 4K video?

We purchased a 65" Samsung KU6300 series and I've read that it doesn't do true HDR, but it's still a 4K tv. I'm not sure how that may affect 4K content. I'm trying to sample some 4K content via Amazon Video (Netflix requires an upgraded subscription). I went to a video like Interstellar which is listed as being a 4K movie (as noted on other sites). And so far the only way I can tell what resolution it is while playing is if I pause it - it shows 1080p only. This is true whether the HDR+ is on (soap opera effect) or off. I'm not seeing any other options on the tv or through Amazon Video settings (through smart TV) to select/adjust resolution. Am I missing something?

try the youtube stuff

A compilation of several different scenes in 4K ultra HD in a single video, ranging from starry desert landscapes at night to the shining futuristic towers of Dubai in the desert sunlight.

A YouTube collection of short 4K movies featuring places such as Redwood Nstional Park, the coast of the U.S Virgin Islands, New Zealand’s insane wilderness and scenes of puppies, horses and honey bees doing their cute or fascinating thing… These are short clips but each is quite beautiful to behold in this resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels.

An awesomely spectacular clip of a skydiver dropping to the earth near Dubai in full 4K ultra HD. This is a perfect example of the kind of extreme sports footage that can now be watched in a way that feels far more real thanks to UHD resolution

Pro movie clips from a partnership between 4K camera maker RED and YouTube have also been uploaded to the website for the sake of promoting Ultra HD and some of these are truly spectacular for having been captured with a professional video production model of a 4K UHD camera.

They do look pretty clear, but no way to confirm/select playing at 4K using YouTube on the TV. Same with casting from phone.

Also can people confirm HDR+ mode has nothing to do with playing at 4K?

Are you wired or wireless? Amazon PrimeTV will automatically adjust resolution based on bandwidth. It seems to stick to a certain resolution after it's initial buffer, so if it can only achieve 1080p speeds at the beginning, it will stay with that throughout the show. If it is streaming 4K, it will say UltraHD when you pause. Try out the shows Bosch or The Grand Tour (there are plenty others now too), if you have the bandwidth it should bump up to UltraHD within the first minute.

For YouTube, I'm still not sure on this... Whenever I use the YouTube app on my KU6290 (same as the KU6300, just crappier remote and no BT), if I go to "More options", then "Stats for nerds", the resolution will say 1440p and I can never get 2160p. You can try going to youtube.com in the browser, I've been able to force 4K on that. You can also go to speedtest.net in the browser and see what kind of speeds your TV is getting.

With Amazon I always see pretty poor quality when it first starts but then noticeably bumps up to 4k after a few moments, before intro credits are over usually.

I also noticed in Amazon's catalog things are listed twice. ie I can choose Grand Tour 4k but if I search for Grand Tour its just as easy to find the one thats not 4k so you need to watch the descriptions to make sure you have what you want.

Netflix is much better in this regard, if 4k is available it gives it to you, no dual listings.

I found that Amazon Video has a section specifically for 4K content if I scroll down a bit. Too bad there aren't many full-length movies yet.

A separate issue we've been having is the Amazon Video app for Samsung hasn't been loading at all and I've had to reset the entire tv back to factory. It worked, but then it stopped loading again a few days later. It thinks for a second then nothing. App issue...?

The 4k movies are under UHD. There are two versions of the content and you purposely have to select the UDH one.
