Can't format hard drive in xP setup

I'm installing XP Pro on a RAID 0 array consisting of two WD 74 Gb Raptors. Using A8N SLI Delux.

For whatever reason, once XP setup asks to creat the partition and then formating follows, the whole process hangs around 8% and doesn't continue any further.

Can anyone give me any idea as how I can get these drives formatted so I can continue with the XP installation process?

is your cpu currently o/ced while this is happening?

im pretty sure this could be one of the reasons why if it is put it on stock and format and let me know

I agree with above. I had 2 80Gb maxtors I was going to set up in a raid array for one of my video editing setups a few years back. Went to format (from within windows it was not going to be the drive my OS was on) and it kept hanging the sys. I booted to the maxdiag utility and sure as sh!t 1 of the drives was bad. Right out of the box a crappy drive. Thank god I got it locally. Hope that helped. BTW are you using an onboard RAID controller or a seperate card? I have had much better luck with seperate contloller cards especialy adaptec over the years. Just my 2 cent.

Can someone supply a link to the diagnostic tool you are speaking of? I went to WD and am not sure which tool to download.

Thanks.

I appreciate the link to the article and I've read it before. However, this article really doesn't help my current situation 😉

I'm sorry, I totally forgot to reply.

The diagnostic tool worked great and it was in fact a faulty hd. I believe the error I received was something like "too many errors to test disk"....:disgust:

Anyway, it's been RMA'd, and I should be good to go in a day or two.

Thanks for the help folks, I appreciate it!
