Can't Flash BIOS on COMPAQ Deskpro 6000

Hey,

I just got a used Compaq Deskpro 6000 (Pentium Pro 200, 64M, 1.2 Gig) and I'm trying to add a 10 G HD. Unfortunaltly, I need to update the bios, but the disk I d/led from compaq doesn't work. I reboot with the disk in, it asks me which bios to use, it saves a backup on my disk, then prompts me if I really want to do this. I click ok, it gives me this screen which says "unable to write to ROM"

I looked all over the board for a dip switch or somehting, nada. I can't figure it out. I tried several different bios versions, all the same thing.

Any Ideas?

I noticed that that bios update was for a different model number, but I gave it a shot anyways. It gave me an error much sooner in the process which said the disk did not contain a compatible BIOS. Thanks for the help. That was the same site I got my BIOS's from. Anyone else?

TIA

I have never heard of an "activate flash eprom jumper" and u shouldn't bother finding one. Search the bios setup for a "Write protect CMOS" or a "CIH buster" or a "virus protection" and disable it. The flashing proccess is initiated if a certain port on the CMOS receives a specific byte (can't recall the hex numbers though... )😀

I tried everything. I reset the CMOS battery. I defaulted the settings in the bios. There were no enable CMOS settings, BTW. I need some new ideas here!!!!! ANYONE????
