I love my PC. Its all black, it has excellent coooling, its very quiet (although there are 9 coolers in it), its ASUS. But after installing games such as F.E.A.R. and Ghost Recon I have to look back at my bank account and wonder if I can afford a price efficient upgrade. All I need is few more frame rates!

I play all of my games using these display settings:
- Resolution: 1024*768 (on 1280*1024 display)
- V-Sync: On
- Antialiasing: 2x
- Anisotropic Filtering: 2x

My current video card is ASUS N6600 GT Silencer ( http://news.softpedia.com/images/news2/...za-ASUS-Extreme-N6600GT-Silencer-2.jpg ). Memory size: 256MB, Core clock: 550, Memory clock: 1100 (Overclocked 10%).

Lately i was thinking of going SLI. Two identical cards would look good and sound good (silent). But the only problem is that i can't physically fit in this chunky video card into the second SLI port, next to four of my Seagate hard disks. The heatsink is huge and the particular model is designed to be plugged in the first port so the heatsink is above the CPU fan.

So now I'm thinking of getting another card, which must be ASUS, silent, and not so expensive. I heard that in SLI mode its recommended to have more RAM on the second slot and more powerful GPU on the first slot. So in this case i think i need to go for the cheaper version of 6600 with 256MB or more RAM.

After Frooglening the video cards i found few choices:
- ASUS EN6600 SILENT/TD/512M ***
- ASUS N6600 SILENT/TD/256M **
- ASUS N6600LE SILENT/TD/256M *
These cards are about £60-80 ($90-115), which I can afford.

Now I'm wondering... Is there any point in getting a second card if I want few more frame rates in those power hungry games? I really want SLI though. And I don't feel like selling my 6600GT to spend even more money on cards like 7600-7900. The cash is the issue in my case, and i want to get most out of it! Also, if two cards run on different clock rates, will this decrease the overall performance of the fastest card?

I'm going to ignore your horrible choice to go SLI for now as other miscellaneous choices that aren't that great.

I just want to know, why the ASUS fanboyism? Generally, they cost much more than equivalent brands of the same card. You can get a 7600GT for only a bit more than you are spending on a 6600LE. Doesn't that make you feel a bit cheated? Or does knowing that you have an ASUS make up for the horrible performance?

With 6600's, I'd suggest an upgrade first.

Shoot for some 7600 or even a 7900GT since there coming down in price. A 7900GT is IDEAL for 1280x1024 (probably overkill if you vmod). At any rate, it doesn't have to be complietly fanless, does it? The vf-900 is a pretty silent cooler at 5v. And that should be plenty to cool a 7600GT or more.

anyway bad choice for sli.a 7600gt can be found for <150 these days and is easily faster than 2x6600gt.

OK, OK! I've just started to look for some good deals for 7600GT, DDR3: 256, GPU: 560, Mem: 1400. ASUS.

But I will still end up having my old 6600GT card. Would it be "kick in the balls" for the 7600GT on the primary PCI-E slot if I connect 6600GT in the secondary PCI-E slot? Worse/Better? As I've asked before: "if two cards run on different clock rates, will this decrease the overall performance of the fastest card?"

Thanks...

....you cant run two gfx cards of DIFFERENT gpus in sli. Just sell the 6600gt, or save it for something else, perhaps a friend's build or whatnot. Just use the single 7600gt.

Around the forums people are saying that the overclocked versions of the 7900gt have the most problems.

Actually, they both suck, but with evga just keep sending them in for new ones and you will eventually get a good stable one, and they have incredible clock settings.

Haha, Seems you you dont understand the slighest thing about SLI. Listen my friend, Search around these forums for a day or two and read the many many threads in here about SLI and tips and tricks needed to live with it. Decide if you want to get ivolved. If Im correct you stated you like to run games vsync enabled? IM pretty sure SLI has a limitation with this. Anyhow as many others have stated a higher end card is often the better choice than 2 low-mid ranged cards. I bet your 6600 could still sell for close to a hundred bones offsetting the cost of perhaps a 1800xt 256 wink wink.
