just got a new SDHC 16gb memory card to put some files on to watch from my BR player that has an Sd card slot. (do i need Fat32 or NTFS for this?)

i'm trying to put a 10gb .avi file on it but it says it cannot fit onto it. i see that the formatted size of the SD card is 15.1gb. why can't it fit?

it is formatted to all default settings

+1

The file system your SDHC card is formated with is not allowing >2GB files.

10GB avi...must be uncompressed (DV-AVI)?

Max file size for FAT32 is actually 4 gigibytes -1 byte ;)

this thread reminds me of formatting my 640gb external from FAT to NTFS. took forever, ugh

Heya,

As mentioned, you'll need to reformat to something else, not FAT32 (which has a 4gig limit, not 2gig). That's why you could not copy a 10gig single file to it. Sure, it can hold more than 10gigs, but not as a single file. NTFS if you're sticking with Windows. Though there are other formats of course...

Very best,

cool, formatted to NTFS and it fit the 10gb .avi file on it, but now to see if my Panasonic BR player can read the NTFS SD card with 10gb avi file on it

apparently not. so i'm guessing my Panasonic BR player w/ SD card reader can only read FAT32 formatted cards which have a file size max of 2gb (or is it 4gb?) i want to play my HD videos on my BR player + 1080p HDTV from my SD card, how can i do it?

i'm sure with fat32 cards i can put my 700mb .avi movies on it

It's 4gb

And you're not gonna get a 1080p movie to fit in a 4gig file size without being pretty short, but you should be able to compress it to ~4gb and still retain around 720p quality (ballpark figure)

I think most 720p movies should fit in 4 gb file size, but its cutting close. Some compression may be needed

This is actually possible and it is not that difficult to do.

^^ what is?

how can i compress a 1hr 30 min 1080p movie (about 10gbs) to fit into a 4gb file so i can format with fat32 and play it on my BR player with Sd card slot?
