Can't find scaling options in ATI CCC

Hi,

I have a Radeon 9600 and a FireMV 2200 running on Windows XP, with 22" AOC e2243Fw widescreen monitors connected via DVI-D single link cables. I'm having issues with black borders when I select any resolution other than 1920 x 1080. Instead of filling the whole screen, it simply puts the smaller resolution in a box in the centre of the screen. The resolution I am mainly interested in is 1600 x 900.

I have spent hours googling this problem and almost all the solutions I see suggest playing with the "scaling options". However I do NOT have this tab anywhere no matter what version of CCC I install, including the latest version. I *know* the monitor is capable of displaying 1600 x 900 because it works fine on the Radeon 9600 via a VGA cable.

I am not sure why, but the problem goes away on the Radeon 9600 if I reduce the refresh rate to 50hz. Unfortunately there is no 50hz option in CCC for the FireMV.

Basically, I am desperate to find the holy grail "scaling option" which so many others seem to be using to fix black border problems. But it doesn't seem to be anywhere!

Thanks for the reply. I already have the "scale image to full panel size" selected. It doesn't make any difference whether I choose that or "use centered timings", the screen always just displays it in the center at 1920x1080, adding as much black border space as necessary to fill the rest of the screen.

Other people who have had this problem have been able to fix it by adjusting the overscan / underscan on a screen titled "scaling options". My problem is that that screen doesn't appear anywhere in my CCC. The screenshot below is the screen I need to find:

I took that screenshot from this page, which describes how to fix my problem:

Yeah that video shows the page I am looking for, but my CCC doesn't look anything like that. Here is a screenshot of mine:

Are you XP or Win7, and what version of CCC. In the older versions (and XP?), it is in a different place and looks completely different and set completely differently.

Windows XP, with "Catalyst Version" 10.2, full version number 2010.0210.2339.42455.

Even though the current version on ATI's site is 11.1, the above is still the version number I get when I install it. The one I'm using I downloaded only a few days ago from their site.

You dont get the overscan-underscan option unless you have 2 monitors. But you can force 50 Hz refresh rate,in display options change it to list all possible modes and 50 will be available

I do have two monitors, but still no overscan/overscan options. I am unable to force either display card to have a refresh rate of 50hz, and if I try to force it using Powerstrip, it crashes my computer. The Radeon lets me force 50hz but then limits me to only two resolutions (neither of which I want), and the FireMV doesn't have 50hz at all. And that is with all possible modes enabled.

Looking at ATI site they show 2 different drivers for those cards.

9600 is the 10.2 drivers, which sound like the ones you are using. The FireMV has different drivers listed for it.

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/firemv-xp.aspx

XP only uses one graphics driver. So, you can't install both. (AFAIK)

The only thing I can suggest is trying the drivers and thye control panel for the FireMV. See if your 9600 plays nice with them. If not then maybe the CAT 10.2 but install the FireMV control panel with them. You might need to uninstall the 10.2 control panel first.

In the end, none of this might work. All you can do though is try different configs and see if something does what you need.

its because your using a generic monitor driver of XP which is full of bugs. Use rivatuner to make a driver for your monitor
