Can't find NTLDR...??

A friend has an old pc with a Maxtor hdd. Upon booting he receives a warning message about the hdd. I recalled that hdd was slow so I used Ghost to clone to a smaller 20GB WD hdd. Unforunately, it won't boot because it can't find the NTLDR, which I suspect means the NT loader. It was an WinXP Pro . How is that fixed?

use your xp cd to fix the problem

This might seem silly, but you can get that warning if he's forgotten and left a floppy in drive a and then tried to boot.
