Can't find ITunes anymore

A friend's son complained to me that he had no room left on C: Took a look and saw that most of his real estate was occupied by his music. Moved everything to a portable HD and now his IPod / ITunes cannot find the music.

Do I need to do some type of follow-up sync or something to point to what is now E: ???

I feel bad I left this kid stranded.....Help!

The easiest thing to do is just delete all the song entries in iTunes, then re-import all his music from his external HDD.

I think that might be the problem though.....unfortunately....I'm not at his p/c right now but I believe when we copied the music from his local HD to the external, ITunes couldn't find the files at the new location. We wouldn't want to re-import because that was the problem in the first place....he was taking up too much room on C:

Does anyone know if there is a certain directory structure that must be in place for ITunes to see the music (i.e. ITunes > My Music > files)?

OK, in iTunes, in the Preferences, just point it to the new library location. That is assuming you copied over everything in the iTunes folder including the library files (the .XML files that catalog everything).

If that still doesn't fix it, then with it still pointed to the new location, delete the library in iTunes, and then reimport, but make sure that 'Copy all files to iTunes Folder' is unchecked when you do this.
