Got a used cable modem... previous owner changed default IP. Don't know current modem IP to log in and make changes. Any suggestions? Should I try to run a port scanner? What is a good one?

-Thanks

Cable modems dont normally have IP addresses. They are just the connection from the computer to the ISPs network.

To get a modem to work, you have to call your ISP and read off the MAC address on the sticker. They provision your modem via MAC address.

Exactly what he said. Call cable company with mac address and in about 1 minute you will be set.

uh yes they do, in fact they have two IP addresses, one on the cable side and one on the subscriber side. Cable modems DHCP to download the IP configuration their settings.

The default IP on the subscriber side of my surfboard is 192.168.100.1. Helped a friend with his DLink cable modem and it had the same default subscriber side IP
