"can't find" errors after service pack 2

After installing Service Pack 2 on XP Home I keep getting errors "can't find xxx.com" etc., when browsing the web. This is DSL w/a home network. I have to click links several times to get the page up. This is consistent across Opera, Mozilla and MSIE. Anybody else have this issue? A friend had almost exactly the same problem after running Windows Update on Windows 2000.
