I really need some help with this --

I opened a file last night through firefox (and I can't remember whether I saved it or opened it directly with Word). I worked on the document all night, and periodically hit CTRL+S to save the file (I was never prompted to enter a file name or choose a location for saving. I closed out of the document this morning, also without being prompted to re-save.

THEN, when I tried to send the document, I couldn't find it at all. I've been looking EVERYWHERE.

The word version is 2007 (or whatever the latest version is). This is really shitty and it was a work-critical file that would ABSOLUTELY SUCK if i had to type all over again.

any help on trying to find it would be supremely appreciated

If you opened through FF then the file is most likely in the Temp folder in your profile Documents and Settings >>Your Profile >> Local Settings >> Temp look for a doc or docx file in there .. GL HTH

Do a FULL computer search (include hidden & system files) looking for some key words in the document.

More than likely you will locate it in on the the Temp folders as suggested above.
When you open a file from within another application, it may be stored in temp locations assigned by the application unless you use a SaveAs and assign the location.

If you opened it from FF, it probably was located in FF's cache directory and probably was deleted if you can't find it using what the others suggested.

hey evadman - sorry for posting the same thing in off topic. i wanted it to get more attention and help (which it did) - and i was able to find a "solution" (that the file was essentially unrecoverable, but it was good to at least try almost every solution i could).

to all those who posted in my OT and this thread with help - thank you all very much. it was a valuable lesson learned and one i won't soon forget. you would think though, that if you hit ctrl+s, word would recognize that this is a document that should be saved.

The document was saved while it was opened.

When you closed the container, the document was probably deleted - and not available in the Recyclebin
