Hi, I need help! For some reason I can't share anything between my laptop and desktop. They are both running windows xp pro and both can see each other on the workgroup. When I go to get into one of the computers through view workgroup computers it asks me for a guest password. What am I supposed to do. The laptop has the files on it and I just want to transfer them to the desktop. I have done it before I don't know why its asking me for a password now. Any advice would be greatly apprectiated. Thank You!

I think there's an IEEE standard to authenticate as a guest when computer information is not available.

Goto the properties of you network connection. goto authentication. Uncheck the guest box. Maybe play with the "authenticate as computer when..." one too.

If it's prompting you for the Guest password, do you have passwords set up on your box that you're trying to access? If you do, and you can change it, try logging in to the share with the u\n-p\w that you are using on the laptop. I know that WinXP doesn't let you access files if the account on the box doesn't have a password set up. I would also turn off Simple File Sharing (never found it to be useful).
