Can't figure out why I can 't read this laptop hard drive.

OK this is an IBM travelstar DARA-206000and it seems to have 4 pins next to the regular ide connectors for jumpers, I think my problem is I can't tell it to be the slave device. it doesn;t show up in the bios when I connect it via a 3.5 to 2.5inch adapter.

where can I find tiny jumpers for laptop hard drives?

As far as I was aware those 4 pins carried power...............

the label on the drive shows them as jumpers. I think the 2 pins next to pin 1 carry the power for laptop drives.

As far as I knew it's a 44 or 42 pin cable - as for the 4 pin block you have, if you are sure it's jumpers just use some copper wire if you have no spare jumpers.

The four pins are jumper settings, no power! Power is sent through some of the pins in the 44pin cable. IBM's site will have documentation for jumper settings if for some reason they are not labeled on the top of the drive. Use anything conductive to connect the wires. A regular jumper should work, you might just have to spread the pins a little.

The separate block of 4 pins are for jumpers. IBM Travelstars come with none - that is the default for Master. The Slave setting is to jumper the two outboard pins vertically. CSEL is achieved by jumping the two lower pins horizontally. These jumpers are very small - about half the height of regular ones so the do not protrude beyond the housing. I don't remember where I got them, but I think they came when I bought a new 2.5-in drive (5400/fluid bearing.)
