can't figure out settings for my track cam

It's seeing the dark interior of the car and setting exposure for that, making the outside washed out.

Change the exposure setting, or get the camera closer to the windshield.

Hmm I wonder if this p & s has exposure settings for video. If It doesn't I will have to zoom in more like ltc8k6 said

yup, mount it closer to the windshield. or see if you can set a metering mode to spot, and at least point the center of the frame outside.

I'm wondering if my camera can do the spot metering thing for video. Its a panasonic dmc zs10

hmm, seems like moving the mount is not an option.

2 options you could try:
-angle the camera upwards a bit to minimize the amount of dash in the image
-zoom the camera in a bit to accomplish the same thing without having a ton of sky (assuming you're running with the top down)

I have the same car and the Panasonic ZS7, which I will assume is similar.

First, set the camera on "P" for Program. Go into the menu and under the regular photograph menu (not the video menu), scroll down to "Metering Mode." Select the spot metering option, which is an icon of a single dot in the middle of the screen. Exit the menu and hit the record button when you're ready. Make sure you have the camera in P when you record. If you put it into Automatic, it will use automatic metering and look bad again.

Set up like this, I get a clear view of the road. I can see myself shifting, but the gauges can't be seen because they will be too dark.
