Can't figure out if my motherboard or video card is messed up.

Hi, and thanks in advance for any help.

I have a Asus-a8n sli premium motherboard and I'm trying to figure out if that or my Evga Geforce7800gt is messed up, I've been having odd computer problems today. First my computer wouldn't boot win xp because my registry was corrupted. Upon doing some steps to fix that and making sure my hard disk wasn't messed up I rebooted my computer 5 times and 2 out of those five times the bios screen with the asus logo and the rest of the screens were scrambled. I also tested my memory and that appeared to be fine I'm not sure what's going on any suggestions?

no I haven't overclocked it. I had reinstalled windows because repairing the registry wouldn't work and the second time I rebooted it told me there was no OS on the computer, so I opened up my computer and made sure everything was seated properly(again) and then I switched where my SATA drivers were plugged in, they were plugged into ports 1 and 2 so I switched them to 3 and 4 and haven't seen any messages about my os being missing since.
