Can't enable integrated wireless g in my eMachines laptop!

Laptop is here.

When trying to pick up my wireless network, it shows that the "radio" is not enabled on the integrated wireless g card. When trying to enable the radio, it says I need to enable the radio control switch on the hardware. What this means exactly, I'm not sure.

I've reinstalled the network driver, checked driver settings, and everything is fine. But it refuses to pick up the network?! I try entering the SSID manually, but it does not find it. Just to be sure, I've had the laptop directly next to the wireless router, and it still doesn't find it, so it's not a signal issue.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Sounds like a pretty simple solution, look in the manuals for a hardware switch. It'll probly tell you all about it in the manual or online, try looking on the router for a power like switch.

Yes, it sounds like a simple solution, but couldn't figure it out. The BIOS was as bare as I've seen on any comp.

It was actually a friend's laptop who was over to watch the Super Bowl, and he didn't have the manual with him.

Well, tell him to read the manual. My laptop for example, D500p, you turn the wireless off and on using <Fn key> + <F11>. Tell him to try that, or look in the manual for similar things

Try Fn+F2. Fn key is the one all the way in the bottom left corner. If it works, there should be an illuminated "e" by the status lights at the bottom middle of the keyboard. It's in the wireless supplement to the manual.

I was just about to say Fn+F2 also :)

Yeah, I've seen this "problem" at work, it's horribly documented, but should be Fn+F2, a little blue light should come on. I really wish they made this easier to find, as we have a lot of people coming back with eMachines laptops that "won't connect to my WhoFlungWhat wireless network". Sigh.

Yeah, it's stupidly done. I actually had to read the manual for my M6805 to find the thing. I kept looking for a physical switch on the thing.
