Can't Download Windows Live Messenger

🙁I have Windows Live Messenger running on my laptop. Recently , after recieving my new system (also WinXP Pro) I tried to download Windows Live Messenger 8.1.0178.00 but can't connect to the web page after hitting the download button on the Microsoft Windows Live Messenger site. When running Windows Update on the new system I chose to download and install IE 7. Could this be the problem or is their something else? I've even tried turning off Norton Internet Security. Any help or work arounds would be appreciated. I could find no solutions after doing a search on the web. Thx

Thanks for the responsed above. I downloaded Seamonkey, thinking that it might be some kind of issue with IE 7 (I've ran into this with certain other sites). I also turned off my firewall and anti virus software (Norton Internet Security) and still no luck in downloading Microsoft Live Messenger 8.1. What is odd, is that I was able to download it on my laptop earlier with IE 6 ... but can't access the download site from there now either.

I keep getting the page : IE cannot display this webpage. I read the information that the page gave regarding DNS is not reachable, and checked the settings regarding SSL and TLS protocols.

This just doesn't make sense to me. Any suggestions on how to get this download? I've even be willing to download a pirated version at this point ;-).

Thanks,
