Can't do dvd backup, drive changes to cd-rom

When I put in a blank dvd+rw the drive changes to cdrom. Have made backups previously, but starting today, no go.
I Can start up the burning program and it shows that it is burning then it gets to the end and hangs up. cant even eject it. So I shut down, then when I restart, I can eject the disc.
When I put it back in and go to disc info tools it shows that the disk is blank, even though it showed it was buning, the red light blinking on the drive. Don't know what to do except maybe uninstall, reinstall the drive. BTW, it will play a dvd just fine. Any ideas.

It won't recognize the DVD unless the session was closed. I suspect problems with your backup software.

It does the same thing, even with a new dvd+rw

Have you attempted reinstallling the software you are using to burn? Have you checked to see if there is updates to the software you are using?

I'm thinking maybe the firmware I flashed it with, is the problem, it didn't do this before that. It has the 2.23 version. The 2.30 version is out, but i don't know if i want to try it or not, guess I don't have much to lose, it is pretty useless as it is.

A firmware update is a good idea since you are currently having troubles. I still recommend reinstalling the burning software and checking for software updates.
