Has anyone run into this situation in Win 98SE? My network config looks like this:

Client for Microsoft Networks
Microsoft Family Logon
NIC
Dial-up Adapter
TCP/IP bound to Dial-up Adapter
NetBEUI bound to NIC
Primary Network Logon is MS Family Logon.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think this option is greyed out whenever you have only one protocol bound to the network adapter, in this case the dial-up adapter. If you are worried about security and only use the modem to use the Internet, then go into the properties for the DUA, go under bindings, and uncheck the File and Printer Sharing if it is there. There is also a place on the net, http://www.grc.com, that will scan your ports for you and tell you how to close them off.

Go into Dial-up Adapter's TCP/IP and your NIC's TCP/IP and make sure nothing is checked under bindings. Then restart your computer, and the option should become avaliable, but make sure it is not checked to disable Netbios over TCP/IP. Go to www.grc.com and read the step-by-step instructions. It tells you exactly how to do it.
