I just built a new rig the other day. It works like a dream - until I try to download a large file or use a bittorrent program. The download always stops and then the internet doesn't work until I restart my computer. If I choose not to restart my computer, soonafter I will see the "Blue Screen of Death." I'm using an integrated graphics adapter on a Biostar Tforce4 U. The chipset is Nforce 4 Ultra. There are no bios updates for the mobo and I've downloaded the newest nforce 4 drivers.

Here is my set-up:

biostar t force 4 u
Amd 64 3200+ venice,
250gb seagate sata,
geforce 6800 gs
Windows xp pro w/ SP2

After the internet dies it still operates and I can play HL2 normally, I just cant do anything internet related. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the nforce network adapter driver, but I have the latest one. I've tried downloading the BF2 demo and it gets 20 or 50 or even 90 percent of the way done and stops downloading.

Please, can anyone help? Thank you for your time.

If I recall correctly, there is a bug in the Nvidia software firewall implementation on the NF4 chipset that results in the scenario you describe.

You're not running any other software firewalls, other than the WinXP SP2 firewall, are you?

Thanks for the info.

No, I'm not running any other firewalls. I already uninstalled the nvidia FW because it wouldn't let me connect at all.

Not using that mainboard myself, I wonder if the onboard LAN is the NF4 controller or another model such as Realtek. You could try downloading a new driver if it's a Realtek or Marvell like some of the other NF4 boards.

If that doesn't work, I'd try a PCI LAN card and see if the problem persists with that connection.
