That's pretty much it, I have an 80 gig WD IDE drive that the bios can detect just fine. For some reason I can't seem to get Windows to detect the drive. I don't know what else to do I have tried the add new hardware wizard but to no avail. The kicker of the whole thing is that I can see the hard drive in device manager but no in my computer...GAH!!! I don't know what to do, Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have you run Disk Manager in Windows to see if it is recognized in there?

Also check to make sure that the master on the same ribbon is jumpered properly. Some drives (like WD) have TWO seperate jumper settings for Master (Single Master and Master with Slave). If the master is jumpered wrong, the slave won't be recognized. On a modern mobo the best thing is to use the CS (Cable Select) setting on ALL drives.

Hope this helps...

Well, all I did was take it out of my gaming machine and put it in my server because it has some movies on it. I have my server set up on my t.v. and I would like to watch the movies and stuff on there.

the drive has to be imported in disk manager. happens all the time. it has another computer's signature on the drive, so it doesn't import it or even do the normal 'new hard drive found, would you like to initialize it?' wizard thing that comes up when you put an unpartitioned drive in there. don't worry, the drive is fine, your computer is fine, you just need to use the drive manager.

I just did something similar, Explorer didn't see the drive and I had everything hooked up correctly. Went into Disk Management and the drive was there but it had no drive letter, I right-clicked and chose "Change drive letter...", voila popped right into Explorer.
