So after upgrading to 9.10, it wont pick up my dell 19 lcd monitor. I cant even see the bios post or anything, blck unresponsive screen. When i hook up another monitor 22 inch lcd, it works fine and detects the display.
I can then switch to the dell while in ubuntu and it works but doesnt detect my display or resolution. When i restart with the dell plugged in, its back to black at reboot.

Im lost, thoughts anyone? thanks

If you can't even see the bios, there's another issue since the bios is before the OS loads. Is your video card a dual port one? If so, perhaps try the other port?

Also, if you have onboard video on your mobo, be sure your BIOS is set to PCI-e video by default, not AUTO or onboard.

tried that already, it boots up works fine with my acer but not with my dell. My dell does not work on other computers. The acer is 1680 x 1050 res and the dell is 1400 x 900

the propieratry drivers that came with ubuntu. I just tried fglrx and same thing. I tried a different power outlet, same problem. Strangest thing, I think it has something to do with the resolution bein virtual and therefore unsupported, but my larger monitor can handle it and then I could switch to my Dell after. But i cant boot up with my Dell

Yeah. I had the same issue with my 3007wfp and Ubuntu 9.10 after upgrading. I had to re-install the OS to get my display working.
Previously I did fix my display by adding the right entries in the xorg.conf for 9.04 but that didn't work for 9.10.

Yeah changing entries in xorg.conf for 9.10 won't work. Eh im thinking about switching over to Mint on this pc anyway. I have a dual boot config with windows and ubuntu now on this machine, can i format my drive with the mint iso cd?

so apparently this is a widespread dell issue. Dell monitors get stuck in power save mode and can't come out..............
