Can't delete folders left over from old OS

I recently installed a new copy of XP over my old one. However, I deleted the WINDOWS and Program Files, Docs + Settings, etc., folders manually because I needed to keep my data on the drive, but couldn't delete Flash9d.ocx and FlashUtil9d.exe, as well as AcroIEHelper.dll, AcroPDF.dll, and pdfshell.dll. I thought I would be able to clear them out in the new OS, thinking they were simply being used, but now I don't have permission to do anything to the files.

Is there any way to delete them? I've even tried Quarantining them, but they refuse to be moved in any way. I have been able to rename the two folders those files are distributed amongst, but I can't do anything to the actual files taking up the space.

right click the files or folders / security / advanced / owner - change the owner to you..

that should do it
