Can't delete BTK bakpat.exe

I downloaded bakpat.exe for Betrayal @ Krondor (which I run in DOSBox 0.63) and am now unable to delete it from either my desktop or from the dynamix/bakcd directory to which I had copied it. I get a message that it cannot be deleted inasmuch as it is being used by another person or program. I have looked at all running programs and processes and find nothing running which should be using bakpat.exe.

Any suggestions, please?

I booted up into safe mode and tried deleting the file; same result. THERE MUST BE SOME WAY TO DELETE THIS FILE!
 
Well, I finally succeeded! First I tried deleting Betrayal @ Krondor in its entirety, which did not work -- after deleting the game, I still got the same response when trying to delete the bakpat.exe file from my desktop (while in Safe Mode): 'cannot delete -- this file is being used by another program or user.'

Then I tried booting in Safe Mode with a command prompt. I was able to use the DOS 'DEL' command to delete the file from my desktop. (I had previously tried booting up in DOS planning to use 'DEL', but DOS would not allow me to get to the desktop sub directory. With the command prompt in Safe Mode, I was able to get there.
