Cant decide which 6600GT AGP

SX2012

Simply, theres too many to choose from, i decide on one and then find some problem with it. I dont know which one is the best. Ive filtered it down to XFX or BFG and it seems XFX has a reputation here for having problematic 6600GT's. I would prefer to get a AGP version stock clocked at 1000MHz ram as its already a mem bandwidth starved card as it is. Anyone have any success/horror stories and recommendations as to which one is overall the best. It seems from reading around google that BFG is overall more praised then XFX but then again more expensive. XFX price seems too good to be true.

I"ve heard a lot of bad things about XFX. A lot of those being from this forum itself. I'd suggest the others.

Definitely NOT XFX, as I have had numerous problems with them and my 6800GT. I have gone through 4 cards from them, and only the one I am using now is even worth a damn. I have also had no problems with my BFG Asylum FX 5700U, which, after more than a year, is still chugging along happily in my dad's box.

I have the XFX card and it works fine. I think many of the other posters mainly have no clue what they're talking about. One guy even asked for help and people gave him potential solutions, only to find out that the idiot had already RMA'd the board.

The probability of getting a bad board is very low, and when you hear some idiot claim that they got 3 "bad" board in a row you pretty much know that they're either doing something wrong or that a problem exists elsewhere in their system.

I agree with you that the odds bad for getting a bad board, but saying that is not necessarily the right thing... Depends on the issues... plus, if you do all the same troubleshooting on one card, only to find the 2nd one works fine, that proves the card was bad if you ask me...

I've had a bad card before.. didn't seem like a hardware issue, but ended up being just that.

not common, but it happens.

does anyone have anything bad to say about the BFG 6600GT OC?
Nope... love mine... however, I did get a bad BFG 6600GT, but I think it was more the fault of the chipset from NVidia rather then BFG... I knew right away too. Darn thing would lockup after a minute of doing anything 3D.

I simply returned the card and got a new BFG 6600GT OC... no problems ever since.

The thing I like about BFG is the lifetime warranty... if ever anything does go wrong, BFG will always make things right (sometimes with a better card then what you have).

I'd go with the BFG... good cards, great company... this is my 2nd generation of BFG GeForce card that I have (have old GeForceFX5900 too)... no problem with either card and great warranty & customer support service from BFG.

Id go with leadtek or gigabyte. My friend has a leadtek 6600gt, very quiet and OCs well. I have a gigabyte AGP, its a little bit louder but it comes with a copper HS. Also OCs well. Went with the gigabyte since it was the cheapest at the time.

Were you talking about ME 😛

No, seriously, I have had legitamate problems with XFX boards, and would not recommend them to anybody for any reason whatsoever. I say go with BFG, Gigabyte, or Leadtek.

Getting a bad board isn't likely, but it does happen. I wouldn't blame someone if they just said they got "a" bad board. But the odds of getting 4 bad boards in a row is astronomical, and if someone had a bit of common sense they'd start looking into other things instead of board.

With a 1% RMA rate which is usually considered the norm, getting a bad card is a 1 in 100 possibility. Getting 2 bad boards in a row would be a 1 in 10,000 event. Getting 3 bad boards in a row would be a 1 in 1,000,000 chance, and 4 in a row would be a 1 in 100,000,000 chance.

Now I know, you ARE talking about me, and frankly, I don't give a sh*t.

I guess I just got "lucky" 🙁

This isn't anything personal against any member here, it's just a general problem that we all can keep in mind.

I used to be tech support for a board manufacturer and I've dealt with thousands of people with the same problem. I remember one guy tried to tell me that our motherboards were junk because he tried 20 of them and none of them worked. I told him the probability of that happening but such a logical argument didn't register in his head. I asked him what settings he used and he told me "the correct settings". Yet when I asked him what the correct settings were, he told me the WRONG settings. He'd done the same thing to 20 boards without having the common sense to try something else to eliminate the chance that maybe HE was doing something wrong.

I have many such stories.

you have the xfx 6600GT AGP right?

I can't believe anyone would suggest anything other than the BFG. All of the 6600GT's are probably within 5% of each other's performane and when you tack on a "lifetime warranty" it becomes a no brainer.

The BFG is overclocked from the start and guaranteed for life pre-overclocked at that!

It runs faster and has a lifetime guarantee with a customer service section that answers your questions and speaks English.

I'd go with the BFG.
